Zaragoza - Aljafería

Claimed as being Spain's finest Islamic-era edifice outside Andalucia, this palace was built for Zaragoza's Muslim rulers (mainly in the 11th century) for pure pleasure. Alterations were made by the Christians in the 12th century, and in the 1490's the Catholic's added their own palace. It has since served as a hospital and barracks and then left to decay until restoration began in the 1940's. Regional parliament was established here in 1987

Stunning collection of eclectic architecture from Art Nouveau to Moorish to Modernist and a sprinkle of Antoni Gaudí creations. Brimming with amazing restaurants and bars, shops and neighbourhoods, superb weather and a climate and lifestyle not unlike our Sydney. We've pencilled this city in as a possible retirement location ... just not Sitges. There are enough leathery, tanned foreign homosexuals shacked-up there! Not that we're leathery & tanned! Having spent time here in 2002 and recently in 2007, Barcelona seduced us both times and we're eager to get back

One of the world's best preserved walled cities. The walls surrounding old Avila were built in the 2nd half of the 12th century, are over 2.5 km long, 12 metres high & have 88 towers or round turrets

A beautiful summer resort city set around La Concha Bay, thriving with unique Basque restaurants, high fashion and glitz, gorgeous traditional and modern architecture, fascinating Parte Vieja (Old Town), excellent coffee, and pintxo's presented to perfection. We were here in 2002 and returned in 2007. One of my favourite places this world has to offer
